About
1 team. 2 season tickets. 43 games. 43 different people.
Golden Season is a personal journey of discovery, declaration and reconnecting through life + basketball. I grew up with the Golden State Warriors and I grow everyday through the people in my life and the people that I meet. That is why I’m on a mission to go to a Warriors game or event with a different person throughout the 2010-11 basketball season. It is the convergence of everything that I’m passionate about: basketball, friends (past, present and future), family, good conversation, technology and storytelling.
Inspiration behind Golden Season
I love basketball. When I first picked up a basketball in the 5th grade, I immediately felt like I was a part of something. I didn’t have many friends before that, but basketball became the ultimate icebreaker… the great equalizer. But come sophomore year of high school, I broke my ankle in three places and slowly fell in love with something else, work. I’ve been working non-stop for a little over the past decade without even realizing it. And whether it’s been in food/retail service, non-profit, television, production or advertising, I’ve loved it all. My work has been fulfilling and I’ve been blessed in the sense that I love what I do and have done, but sometimes that mix equates to a very blurry line that defines a healthy ‘work/life balance’.
Just like most people who work a lot, I’ve sacrificed a lot in the pursuit of my passions. I’m ashamed to admit it, but I’ve missed birthdays, parties, vacations, holidays and many of life’s spontaneous moments because of my shifted priorities. Golden Season is my way of reclaiming these lost moments with old friends, strengthening my bond with current ones and maybe even making some new ones over a game and team I love. Because, as great as Facebook is at reconnecting, it doesn’t replace a shared face to face experience.
I didn’t just buy Warriors season tickets, I invested in Warriors season tickets.
The people in my life are important to me, and I want to bring them together with the sport that made me feel like I was a part of something bigger. I have a hunch that basketball in one form or another will still be the ultimate icebreaker it once was for me. I believe it will be and do more than that. I believe it will help bring some clarity to my shifted priorities. I believe it will jump start relationships I have neglected. I believe that there is some greater lesson to be learned from life + basketball, and I’ll be blogging along the way.
I hope you’ll join me this year, it’d be amazing to catch up.
